Hong Kong police have arrested a 16-year-old garage worker for allegedly driving without a licence after he lost control of a Tesla car and crashed into a parked vehicle, pushing the latter through a property agency’s storefront and leaving an employee injured.

The force said on Monday that the teenager was believed to have been trying to drive the electric car out of the garage on Luk Mei Tsuen Road when he lost control and struck a seven-seater parked nearby.

The boy had reportedly only started the job on the day of the incident.

The Post learned that he was looking at his mobile phone when he mistakenly pressed the accelerator.

The impact pushed the seven-seater through the shopfront of the property agency. The employee – a 67-year-old woman – suffered a leg injury during the accident and was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

The property sustained heavy damage, with a large hole punched through an interior wall. The front bumper of the Tesla was also damaged, while the rear of the other vehicle was left caved in.
