Kim Yong-beom was a key adviser to Lee on economic policy, including on housing and stock market issues.
Kim had offered to step down from the post on Monday, which oversees the administration’s economic and domestic policy agenda.
His proposal for a potential “citizen dividend” funded by excess tax revenue from the AI boom also triggered public debate, and fuelled market speculation over how the government might use the windfall. Kim later said that the idea involved distributing excess tax receipts rather than tapping company profits.

President Lee had accepted Kim’s resignation on Tuesday, his office said. It did not immediately disclose the reason for his resignation or name a successor.
