The shooting occured around 6:30 p.m. in Valle Soleado, where members of the Fuerza Civil were conducting a patrol when they were attacked by armed men. One officer died at the scene, with two others taken to the hospital, where the second officer died of his injuries.
Criminals burned a vehicle in a the nearby Fraccionamiento San Fernando neighborhood, likely as a distraction to aid their escape.
After the shooting, Fuerza Civil and National Guard established a checkpoint inspecting all vehicles entering and leaving the San Francisco subdivision. A helicopter was also deployed, but the suspects have not been found.
The confrontation is the highest toll event in Reynosa for many weeks. Reports of gunfire and tirespikes are a near nightly event in the city, but the targeting of security forces is rare. The attack could have been a random opportunistic ambush, or a planned retaliation for the recent capture of Alexander Benavides Flores ”Metro 9″ arrested in Reynosa on 27 April.
