US President Donald Trump said he exchanged letters with Chinese President Xi Jinping about Beijing’s potential role in the Iran war, according to his interview with Fox Business aired on Wednesday.
“He is somebody I get along with very well. He just wrote me a beautiful letter. He responded to a letter that I wrote because I had heard that China is giving weapons to [Iran],” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.
Trump did not elaborate on when the letter exchange took place.

Over the weekend, CNN cited two sources as saying Beijing was working to route shipments – which it said included the transfer of shoulder-fired anti-air missile systems known as MANPADS – through third countries to Iran in coming weeks.
Following the report, Trump threatened to impose a 50 per cent tariff on China, which was met with strong pushback from Beijing.

Guo Jiakun, spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, vowed to retaliate if tariffs were imposed on China, saying the threat was based on fabricated reports.
