Football fans launched a unique protest against US President Donald Trump and Fifa chief Gianni Infantino at Sunday’s World Cup final.

Red cards were handed out in New York and New Jersey to those on their way to the MetLife Stadium for the Spain versus Argentina clash.

Protest organisers hope fans will hold up the red cards during the handing over of the trophy to demonstrate their anger at Trump and Infantino. The duo are set to give the winning captain the World Cup.

The red cards featured a QR code linking to the platform finalredcard.com, which gave fans instructions on when to hold them aloft.

“After review, for political corruption and abuse of the presidency, the decision is red card!” the website said, mimicking a video assistant review at a match.

Fifa boss Infantino and Trump have faced heavy criticism for the past two weeks after US striker Folarin Balogun had his ban lifted despite a red card, allowing him to play in the last-16 match against Belgium.
