The federal government announced that this week, Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of National Defense Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, and Secretary of the Navy Raimundo Morales will conduct supervisory visits to Sinaloa.

The agenda includes reviewing security deployments and assessing, firsthand, the needs of the state police, as well as those in Culiacán and Mazatlán—where the operation of the C4 (emergency command and control center) will also be evaluated.

They will visit the site selected for the construction of a new prison. It was later reported that the Secretary of National Defense inspected the conditions of the troops from the Third Military Region, based in Mazatlán. And why all this? Well, as you can see, the violence shows no signs of stopping.

In Sinaloa, local media have reported the murders of seven men and one woman over the last 24 hours. Five of these incidents occurred in Mazatlán, and three in Culiacán. This brings the total number of femicides in the state so far this month to 20. Furthermore, two of the victims were beheaded. One of the severed heads was left outside the Mazatlán City Hall—a municipality that has currently become the most violent area in Sinaloa.

Incidentally, also in Sinaloa, the death of a criminal leader from the “Chapo Isidro” faction was reported tonight; the United States had offered a $5 million reward for his capture. The individual is Jesús González Peñuelas, known as “Chuy González,” who was killed during a confrontation with Navy personnel yesterday in Guasave—though his identity was only confirmed today. On May 20, the United States Department of the Treasury issued sanctions against Chuy González, whom it identified as being responsible for drug trafficking since 2007. He faces at least two indictments in California and Colorado.
