Amy Navarrete Arriola, a former Green Party (PVEM) candidate for municipal president of Matías Romero, Oaxaca, was shot and killed along with two others during a religious festival in the rural community of Paso Guayabo on Tuesday afternoon.
An armed man entered the celebration of the Virgin of the Nativity, approached Navarrete, and opened fire, according to witnesses and the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGE). Two other people also died at the scene and three more were wounded.
Amy Navarrete was the wife of Enrique Pacheco Martínez, a magistrate of the Administrative Justice Court of the State of Oaxaca, who was also murdered in the city of Oaxaca in September 2021.
