
Police and security forces swarmed the White House on Saturday evening after shots were fired in the area.
US President Donald Trump was at the White House at the time as he worked to negotiate a deal with Iran.
A suspect approached a checkpoint near the White House and fired at officers, a US law enforcement official said.

The suspect was down and had been taken to hospital, the official added, saying that no law enforcement personnel were injured.
Journalists working at the White House reported hearing a series of gunshots and were told to seek shelter inside the press briefing room. US Secret Service officers kept them from leaving.
