A Hong Kong woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for assisting in robbing three people as a teenager by luring them to a deserted location before her fellow gang members attacked them and took nude photos for extortion.
The High Court sentenced 23-year-old Hau Yan-ki on Tuesday after a jury rejected her assertion that she had mistakenly believed she was just helping her friends to collect debts from the victims.
She was among six people – two women and four men – arrested in connection with a series of extortion schemes perpetrated by the gang in November 2020.
Hau, who was 17 at the time, met her targets on social media and dating apps and persuaded them to take a taxi with her to an isolated location in Yuen Long.
The five victims – four men and a woman – were beaten up and forced to transfer money to her accomplices before they were released.
The female victim, identified in court only as X, was forced to eat grass, undress and masturbate in front of a camera, before another unidentified male victim was forced to perform oral sex on her.
