This morning, gunmen fired shots fired at the home of the Governor of Sinaloa, Ruben Rocha Moya, currently on leave, in the “Las Quintas” neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa
Police received reports of shots fired around 10:00 a.m. on May 9. According to the State Public Security Secretariat, the property had been uninhabited for 10 years, and no one was injured in the shooting.
Two weeks ago, The United States Department of Justice indicted Governor Rubén Rocha Moya along with nine other Mexican officials on drug- and weapons-related charges tied to the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Rocha Moya denied the accusations, but has taken leave of his position.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected the United States’ request for extradition, requesting more evidence of Rocha Moya’s guilt before making a decision. The Mexican government has begun conducting their own investigation into the matter.
