A boy who showed signs of heatstroke, including vomiting and fainting, after completing a 400-metre training run at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground in Hong Kong has died.
A police spokesman said the force was alerted at 5.11pm on Saturday that the boy, 11, had vomited and was displaying signs of heatstroke at the sports complex.
“He was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital unconscious,” the spokesman said.
The boy, a Hong Kong identity card holder, was certified dead in hospital at around 6.50pm.
A source said the boy had been attending weekly running training sessions since April. He sat down after a 400-metre run during Saturday’s session.
“He sat on the ground and appeared to be vomiting, before losing consciousness and slumping over. He was not breathing and had no pulse,” the source said.
The boy’s coach tried to resuscitate him and used an automatic defibrillator before calling police.
